About us
The Department of Clinical Medicine brings together clinics and institutes that are involved in direct patient care and are therefore closely linked to University Hospital rechts der Isar. The scientific activities focus on translational and clinical research and its application in humans. The structures of all departments are geared towards clinical and translational research. Findings from basic research provide a theoretical basis for this. The Department of Clinical Medicine has relevant infrastructures for translation. In clinical research, this includes the Münchner Studienzentrum (MSZ), the Medical Ethics Committee, the Tissue- and Biobank and the unit for the production of cell products (TUMCells).
The expansion of the infrastructure for conducting early clinical trials, including an Early Clinical Trial Unit, is of strategic importance. In translational research, the Center for Preclinical Research (ZPF) with its ability to model disease processes in animal models is of central importance to researchers. In addition, core facilities for genomics, proteomics, cell analysis and experimental pathology are available, which interact closely with the TUM central core facilities. The Departments of Preclinical and Clinical Medicine are responsible for education in the clinical study section of the human medicine degree program. Both departments are centrally involved in the scientific qualification of students not only in human medicine, but also in biology, biotechnology, biochemistry, bioengineering and other disciplines.
